Chris Moneymaker: Amateur Wrestler?

Pretty hilarious thread on 2+2 here, with photographic proof (assuming it’s legit, of course) of a late night drunken wrestling match at the Monte Carlo in Las Vegas involving a shirtless Chris Moneymaker:

Talk About Sick Beats at the APPT Macau

We’ve all had sick beats at the table, but I can’t say I’ve ever seen anyone blow chunks into their freaking hat:

He’s been gradually going downhill all day, but it all turned very ugly a few minutes ago when he deposited the night’s takings straight into his cap.

After a brief “rest” in the nearby men’s facility (and a few laps of the Grand Waldo in a porcelain bus), he returned but has spent much of this level slumped over the table, only occasionally lifting his head to glance at his cards.

One player at table nine just commented about flopping the nuts. The reply was swift: “Man, please don’t mention food.”

A stickler for the rules, McDonagh just announced that all players in the main event should “wake up – we need you awake to play. Including table nine”.

Brian Townsend Admits Multiple Accounts

Online whiz kid (and one of the principals at CardRunners) Brian Townsend was recently outted as to running multiple accounts on Full Tilt and PokerStars, and he’s finally come forward and ‘fessed up himself after rumors began surfacing weeks ago as to his playing with multiple accounts:

For the past 6 months I have been playing under the 2nd aliases Stellarnebula on FTP and makersmark66 on PokerStars.  I have not used the aba20 account on Stars since I began playing on the Makersmark66 account.  I have since gone back to using the aba20 account and will play only that account.  During this time I played the 25/50 and 100/200 PLO games.  I played under the Stellarnebula account from February until the end of June at which time Lee Jones and I had a discussion and we came to an agreement that I needed to close it.  During this time I was playing under the Brian Townsend account, never at the same table with the Stellarnebula.  Under the Stellarnebula account I played 25/50, 50/100, and 100/200 PLO.  During this time I played a very small amount of 50/100 PLO and primarily 200/400 PLO under the Brian Townsend account.

I wanted to have come forward and make this public sooner, but unfortunately because of certain business relationships I could not do that.  What I did was wrong and I am going to be punished by FullTilt poker by having my red pro status revoked for 6 months.  I am unsure what action, if any, PokerStars will take.

He’s also fielding questions (well, selectively fielding questions) about the issue over at this 2+2 thread.

Think You’re Running Bad? Think Again

Any poker player that’s logged a decent number of hands has hit a rough patch when seemingly nothing goes right, but it’s usually a fairly short rough patch. Running terribly (60 or so buy-ins below equity at $100NL) over 80,000+ hands, though, is a whole other world of suck:

The maths of encountering such a streak of bad luck (which is essentially what happens when you’re running below your expected equity) is somewhere around .005%, so, umm, yeah. That’s running pretty damn bad.

Admo Accuses 2+2 Mod Cornell Fiji of Theft

Original post in the thread occured yesterday in this thread, with 23 pages and counting of responses already, involving some well-known high stakes 2+2 players/mods (admo and Cornell Fiji) and a $30K unpaid debt.

Cliff Notes:
2+2 Moderator Steven Ware (Cornell Fiji) stole $30,000 from me. To date he has not paid any of it back.

Story
3-4 weeks ago I responded to Steve’s post to trade his cash for online. He said that he had several offers but that he wanted to trade with me “because he knew he wouldn’t get ripped off”. I offered to fly back to Vegas to do the trade, since he was offering cash at no vig and I needed to pick up my ME tourney cash anyway. He said that wouldn’t be necessary– he could deposit directly into my bank account, so I offered to send first since he seemed like a stand-up guy. I send $30,000 to his FTP account (TheMatadorKGB); he didn’t reciprocate. He said that he didn’t leave his room all day and that he’d deposit in the morning. Then he disappears for two days, ignoring PMs and text msgs. On the third day leaves a message on my cell saying “well I’m sure you probably guessed what happened…”

He PM’d saying that he’s a complete ******* and degenerate and that he blew the $30K at Bellagio. Promised to make good as soon as he got back to New Jersey in a day or two. Disappears for another 2 days. I tell him to send the $30K back via FTP immediately. He says he can’t b/c he lost it to “Boosted’s luckbox.”

Mostly he ignores my PMs asking him what he’s doing to repay. When he does respond, he has said that he would:

(i) Borrow from friends
(ii) Borrow from family
(iii) Sell everything he owns
(iv) Repay via advance from his upcoming book
(v) Repay in a month and a half when he can sell some stock

He tells me he’s “doing everything he can” but hasn’t paid back anything, not even some small good faith amount, despite there being a branch of my bank literally within walking distance from his house.

What has Steve done since he ripped me off on July 15th?

– Continued posting about those “thieving bastards at UB”.

– Posted some interesting(?) strategy threads in MTT (one , two)

– Challenged stealthmunk to a minimum $250K HU 4 ROLLZ

– Helped make some web comics

What now?
I set up a reasonable $2.5K/week payment plan. The deadline for the first payment was yesterday, which I extended to today because he PM’d that he was getting a loan from his brother-in-law. He said he’d be in touch today to tell me what happened either way. Banks just closed on the East Coast and there is no deposit from Steve. Unsurprisingly, he hasn’t PM’d or texted all day.

I have told him more than once that I will not allow him to steal from my family. My hope is that making this public will expediate the repayment process, but either way I am confident that I will recover the money. (plus any money I spend recovering the money) I’ve held off saying anything or filing a police report because I don’t need to ruin the guy’s life for something stupid that he did. But we’ve come to the point where he’s taken advantage of my goodwill.

In the end, I honestly don’t think that Steve is a bad guy. He’s a (self-admitted) degenerate gambler who made a pretty terrible decision. However, he continues to compound the problem by avoiding contact with me and burying his head in the sand. He asked me not to out him on 2+2, but has promised to pay back what he took regardless of whether or not I do which is sort of honorable(?)

Steve– in a short while I’m going to involve both the authorities and my attorneys. In my letter I laid out exactly what this will mean for you; I’d urge you to avoid it at all costs.

If Steven ignores this advice, I invite everyone to follow along…

Most posters seem to be on admo’s side, and Cornell Fiji has apparently deleted other threads on 2+2 discussing the situation. Other posters have also come forward with claims that Cornell Fiji owes them money as well. No public response from Cornell Fiji yet.

The Great Dane Donates a Lot of Cabbage

According to High Stakes Report, Gus Hansen recently dropped nearly $800,000 in a 15.5 hour PLO session at Full Tilt,

The great Dane sat down on FTP table Patrik and would not get up for another 15.5 hours as he continued to fall deeper and deeper in the hole. Logging in 1,168 total hands in the $2000/$4000 Limit Omaha Hi/Lo game, Gus Hansen managed to donate over $796K during his marathon session. The other six-figure losers at the table consisted of Ilari “Ziigmund” Sahamies (-$125K), Markus Golser (-$131K), and Bill Gazes (-$158K). The game’s biggest win went to Patrik Antonius who racked up over $476K thru 674 hands. Other big winners were Steve Sung ($219K+), John D’Agostino ($214K+), and David Singer ($123K+).

So the next time you go on monkey tilt and blow through a quarter of your bankroll in one day, smile, it could be a lot worse.
